August, 2009:

2009 Four-Way Lodge Vacation

Here are a few mementos of Lake Solitaire environs where I spent the first two weeks of August swimming, canoeing, kayaking, boardsailing, mountain biking and nordic walking … besides eating and sleeping!

A nice change of pace, not to mention, view, from the 2-dimensional computer screen, and some pleasant get-togethers with Bosiljka’s cousin Muriel Bull and Ken & James Olsen, perennial guest Larry Osgoode, and for one weekend, Bill and Sarah Bartram.

Kieran, Trevor and Andrew Bartram were back from another adventurous summer of tree-planting in Northern BC and Alberta and they used every opportunity to test out their new climbing gear on Echo Rock and at least one Haliburton Highlands outcropping near Camp Kandalore where Fred Loosemore, Bob Wolfe and I had run the first Camp Kandalore rock and ice climbing program back in the early 70s …

Unfortunately, I was unable to find/recognize the old trail to the face, what with the bush having added almost 40 years of growth, so the boys rappelled down the first good-sized cliff we stumbled upon.
