CITY OF MISSISSAUGA CORPORATE REPORT dated April 8, 2028
“In response to the Court’s decision and to align the by-law with practices that help ensure human health and safety while restoring enforceable standards, staff recommended repealing the Weed and Grass Control By-law and replacing it with a new Turfgrass and Prohibited Plant Species By-law (the “new By-law”).

On April 10, 2026, Council adopted the recommendations, repealed By-law 125-2017 and resolved to draft the new by-law.

The proposed new By-law is intentionally limited in scope and is not a comprehensive redesign of property maintenance regulations. It removes terminology and provisions that are no longer defensible and is designed to address deficiencies by clearly defining what is regulated and why, restricting regulation to circumstances where municipal intervention is necessary to protect human health and safety.

The following recommendations were made in consultation with Forestry, comparable jurisdictions, and a panel of subject matter experts, including academic and research professionals, specializing in relevant disciplines such as conservation biology, ecology, invasive species management, and urban landscape practices.”

The Ruck v. City of Mississauga short documentary “A WOLF IN THE SUBURBS” had its World Premiere screening at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, TX a couple of weeks ago and today was awarded the CANADIAN GRAND PRIZE [1] and the INTERNATIONAL FILM CRITICS AWARD [2] at the 2026 REGARD [3] Festival in Chicoutimi, Québec.

KUDOS to Director, Amélie Hardy; Producer Rosalie Chicoine-Perreault; Cinematographer, Myriam Payette; the Film Crew; and the Travelling Distribution team for a well-deserved start to the 2026 Film Festival Season !!!

CANADIAN GRAND PRIZE [1]
Several Canadian film festivals offer prestigious Grand Prize awards, highlighting excellence in Canadian and international cinema

INTERNATIONAL FILM CRITICS AWARD [2]
The FIPRESCI International Critic Award is a prestigious prize awarded by the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) at various international film festivals to promote film art and encourage new, young cinema. Jury members—professional film journalists—select winning films for their originality and artistic merit.

REGARD [3]
The REGARD Film Festival has been Academy Award-qualifying since 2017, meaning winners of its top prizes are automatically eligible for Oscar nominations in the short film categories.
It is also recognized by the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI). The festival typically screens approximately 200 short films from over 50 countries during its five-day run and distributes over CAD$120,000 in prizes and grants to winning filmmakers.

HOT DOCS [4]
The Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival is the largest documentary festival in North America. The event takes place annually in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
